In September 2000, the Lilly Endowment Inc.
approved Transylvania's request for a five-year, $1.5 million grant for the
theological exploration of vocation.

Transylvania is one of 20 schools, and the
only Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) institution, to receive a grant. It
is the largest single grant from a private foundation in the University's
history. The grant allows Transy to implement a program that helps students
examine how their values and commitments can play a role in determining their
life's work.

The Lilly Endowment Inc., which supports the causes
of religion, education and community development, was founded in 1937 by three
members of the Lilly family with gifts of stock in their pharmaceutical
business, Eli Lilly and Company. Based in Indianapolis, the Endowment is one of
the nation's largest philanthropic organizations.
