First. To create a campus ethos that encourages our students to understand their future work in light of their life's commitments and in terms of vocation. This goal will be accomplished by expanding existing programs and through initiatives in six areas of campus life: alumni relations, academics, career development, campus minister's office, community service, and student life. Major activities:

  • Adding a faculty development seminar on vocation

  • Adding a section to the weekly academic affairs presentations in which faculty members talk about the vocation of teaching in their disciplines

  • Adding a vocation segment to our required orientation courses, Academic Career Skills and Foundations of the Liberal Arts

  • Highlighting existing conversations on vocation in career counseling and community service

  • Adding a lecture series on civic and social responsibility

  • Providing opportunities for internships

Second. To identify and nurture the next generation of church leaders, both lay and ordained. This goal will be accomplished by expanding and enriching our pre-ministerial program and by initiating inter-church dialogue. Major activities:

  • Enhancing the campus minister's office

  • Expanding TRANSY & T.E.A.M. (Totally Excited About Ministry) to a three-day event the first national Disciples of Christ program specifically designed for high school youth considering leadership in the church

  • Strengthening religious programming on campus, especially Disciples on Campus (DOC) and Students Exploring Religious Vocation and Education (SERVE)

Third. To strengthen existing partnerships and invite dialogues with Disciples institutions that share our commitment to identify and nurture the next generation of leaders for church and society. This goal will be accomplished through partnership initiatives with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) In Kentucky. Major activities:

  • Assisting the Kentucky Council of Churches with EcuCamp, a week-long, ecumenical summer camp for high school leaders

  • Establishing a "semester at seminary" with select seminaries

  • Co-sponsoring a series of symposiums with the Division of Higher Education of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
