Transylvania University is located in the heart of Lexington,
Kentucky. Founded in 1780, Transylvania is the nation's 16th oldest college and
the first institution of higher education west of the Allegheny Mountains. With
a noteworthy religious heritage since its inception, Transy has been
affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1865. Continued
ties with the church show a commitment to core values, which emphasize tolerance
and freedom of inquiry.
In the fall of 1993, Transylvania initiated the first national event
for high school students exploring the ordained ministry as a vocation. This
program, Transy & T.E.A.M. (Totally Excited About Ministry), will be
expanded and funded by the Lilly Project. Another campus ministry is
Disciples on Campus (D.O.C.).
