All students who made artwork this year were eligible to submit work for this juried exhibition. Florida artist Kendra Frorup is this year's Guest Curator. Kendra's work can be seen in the Morlan Gallery's exhibition entitled Draw, Build, Stamp.
The Morlan Gallery congratulates the six Jurorís Awards recipients for the 2008 student exhibition. Frorup awarded four students with a Jurorís Prize for Excellence: Kaci Clay for her shadow sculpture Play Timeís Over; Josh Koropchak for his digital photograph Panorama; Brent Roach for his outstanding collection of ceramic works; and Corey Washburn for his untitled painting of a snorkeler. David Kring and Montgomery Powers each earned honorable mentions for overall excellence in their submissions.
Beginning in 2001 the academic dean has selected an artwork from Morlan Galleryís Juried Student Exhibition to purchase and add to the Universityís permanent collection. Chosen by the dean, faculty and staff jurors, and the Morlan Gallery director, the honor of being included in the Universityís permanent collection is given to an artwork of superior creative and technical accomplishment. This year senior Brent Roachís ceramic sculpture Going in Circles was named the Deanís Purchase Award Winner. Brentís sculpture will be temporarily exhibited in the Student Center during the University Awards Program (5/8/08, 7 p.m.) where Brent will be recognized for his accomplishment. Thereafter Going in Cirlces will be displayed in the library.
