Apart from the herd

Junior Patrick Davis plays the role of Berenger in the Transylvania University Theater production of Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros, which played in the Lucille C. Little Theater in February. Guest director Sully White directed the absurdist comedy, which portrays Ionesco’s fear of the spread of totalitarianism based on his personal experiences with fascism during World War II. Davis’s character becomes the last person in the drama to retain his human individualism in the face of the descent into brute force and violence by the other characters, symbolized by their transformation into rhinoceroses.
