Dr. John Svarlien teaches courses in the ancient languages, literature, and cultural history of the Greco-Roman world. His special interests are mythology, gender and sexuality in the ancient world, and Augustan Rome. He currently is working on a verse translation of Horace’s Satires. Dr. Frank Russell offers courses in ancient history, warfare, and espionage, as well as ancient Greek. He frequently takes students abroad to the eastern Mediterranean for courses on the ancient city (with prof. Fosl) and biblical archeology (with prof. Jones).
