How Can I Get Involved?

Come PLAY with us. With so many opportunities in Transy's Theatre Program, we have something for everyone.
Performance. Each year we produce two to three major productions with cast sizes of ten to twenty. These shows are selected with an eye to providing a wide range of theatrical styles, actor-audience spatial relationships, and opportunities to experience both classical and contemporary drama. Auditions are open to any Transy student, regardless of year or major. Beyond acting in one of our Main stage Productions, advanced students are always looking for quality actors to perform in the Senior Seminar productions and the Theater Guild shows. Contact Sully White for more information.

Technical Work. Performance not for you? Like working with your hands? The SCENE SHOP is for you. We have numerous opportunities to work on creating the best sets, props, costumes, and lights for each production for Transy's theater. And during each production we need dedicated crew members to make the show run smoothly. There are a variety of ways to get involved:

  • Enroll in a Quarter-credit Practicum to work on any area of the theater. Contact Mike Sanders
  • Volunteer Some Time. Scene Shop is chewing sawdust from 1-5 p.m. everyday prior and during performances. Contact Mike Sanders. The Costume Shop needs cutters, sewers, and dressers. Contact Brenda Evans.
  • Work-Study. Contact Devon Query to see if you have what it takes to get paid while learning theatrical production techniques.

Night Out at the Theater. Each semester we offer opportunities to see theatrical productions in Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati, depending upon the the shows and availability. We have also organized trips to New York, where we have seen productions of Proof, The Lion King, and The Full Monty, as well as backstage tours of The Phantom of the Opera and interviews with actors and technicians.

Take Some Classes. Transy Drama Program offers a wide range of course work open to the general student population. Courses cover areas including acting, directing, design, and literature. Contact the Registrar for more information.
