Career Assessments Learning about your self is essential to making confident career decisions. We offer online assessments through FOCUS, as well as the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Whichever way you choose to take assessments, the goal is to help you identify your interests, values, and abilities, along with your personality characteristics essential to finding a career that is a good fit. Assessments are not enough, however! Discussing your results with a career counselor can add great value to your results.
Experiential Education What better way to explore a career than to try it out? The CDC offers Job Shadowing opportunities as well as Internships, both with and without credit. The best way to get a job after graduation is to show on your resume that you have experience and have learned skills essential to performing various types of work. We'll work hard to find good learning experiences related to your career field.
Graduate School Preparation Do you know that you want that advanced degree, but aren't sure about the process? We can assist you in finding the appropriate degree to work for and give you resources to find the right schools to apply to. Let us give you pointers on writing an application essay. If you are preparing for the GRE or GMAT exams, we have free resources and information that we can discuss with you. We also offer books to help you with the MCAT or LSAT.
Resumes and Application Assistance It's never to early to have a resume. Whether you're applying for a summer job or your first professional position, you need a strong resume to show your skills to potential employers. The CDC has a resume guide and many books available to help you draft your resume. When you are finished, bring it to us and we will critique it for you so that it is polished. We will do the same for cover letters, graduate school essays, and other materials. Additionally, let us help you prepare for interviews or lunch meetings by setting up a mock interview.
Networking and Job Search: Network or not work! The CDC has worked hard to develop a strong network of alumni and community leaders who are looking for young people to work for them. Begin your job search by coming to our office to learn about networking skills and clarify your job search strategies. You can also access the CrimsonNet system from this Web site to browse job openings and upload resumes and cover letters to apply for positions. The CDC isn't just for seniors looking for career positions. We work with students all four years to help secure good summer jobs that can help you prepare for your eventual career path.
