Transfer Students

A transfer student has been previously enrolled at another college or university and received credit for coursework.

This does not apply to high school students who have taken college courses while enrolled in high school.

Transfer students should submit the following for admissions consideration:

  • Admissions application

To apply, choose one of the following application options. For help filling out the application, contact Ingrid Allen, associate director of admissions, at iallen@transy.edu.

    Common Application   Printable Application

If you are applying to more than one of the over 500 colleges and universities that use the Common Application, we recommend you complete the Common Application.

If you are filling out the Common Application for the first time, please register here.

If you prefer a paper application, a downloadable PDF application is available for you to print, fill out, and mail in.

  • Admissions essay

You should include with your application an essay providing the admissions committee insight into you and what you will bring to the Transylvania community. Please limit the essay to 1–2 typed, double-spaced pages.

    To submit the essay:

    a) If you apply using the Common Application, instructions are provided for uploading the essay file.

    b) If you complete the Printable Application, submit the printed essay with the application form.

  • Final, official high school transcript

A high school transcript can be requested from the school’s registrar and sent directly to the Office of Admissions.

  • Official college transcripts

Applicants should submit transcripts from all colleges attended. College transcripts issued to the student for delivery are not considered official.

  • Official ACT and/or SAT scores

Transylvania University accepts both the ACT and SAT for admission and scholarship consideration. Score reports can be sent directly to the Office of Admissions from ACT and/or SAT. Scores appearing on official high school transcripts will also be accepted.

This requirement may be waived. Transylvania reserves the right to request test scores at any point in the admissions process.

  • Two letters of recommendation

The letters should be written by two individuals closely acquainted with your academic work. We prefer that both letters of recommendation come from college instructors or advisors who have taught you in the past two years.

    a) If you use the online Common Application, recommenders should complete the Instructor’s Evaluation and Recommendation and mail it to the Office of Admissions.

    b) If you have applied using the Printable Application, your teacher can complete the Teacher's Evaluation and Recommendation and mail it directly to the Office of Admissions.

If you graduated from high school within the past year, you may ask your high school counselor to complete the Counselor's Evaluation and Recommendation as one of your recommendations.

    a) If you use the online Common Application, your high school guidance counselor can submit a recommendation via the Common Application system.

    b) If you have applied using the Printable Application, your counselor can complete the Counselor's Evaluation and Recommendation and mail it directly to the Office of Admissions.
