International Students

Students who are not United States citizens or permanent residents should submit the following for admissions consideration:

  1. Admissions application and essay
Applicants may use the Common Application, a shared online application used by hundreds of colleges and universities. Also, a downloadable click-and-print application is available. (Please note: Adobe Reader is required to view the click-and-print application.)
  2. Official secondary school transcript
Your secondary school transcript must be translated into English with a grading scale attached.
  3. Official TOEFL, ACT and/or SAT scores
You must submit official scores from one of these exams for admissions consideration.
  4. Counselor Evaluation and Recommendation
If you submit an online Common Application, your secondary school counselor can submit a recommendation via the Common Application system.  Otherwise, your secondary school counselor can  complete the Counselor's Evaluation and Recommendation. If you are a transfer student but graduated from secondary school within the past year, your counselor may provide one of your recommendations.
  5. Teacher’s Evaluation and Recommendation
Ask a teacher with whom you have had class within the past two years to complete a recommendation. If you submit an online Common Application, your teacher can submit a recommendation via the Common Application system.  Otherwise, your teacher can complete the Teacher's Evaluation and Recommendation. If you are a transfer student, please have two college or university instructors complete a recommendation unless you graduated from secondary school within the past year. In that case, a secondary school counselor may provide one of your letters of recommendation.
  6. Official college transcripts (if applicable) – If you have taken college or university courses during secondary school, you should provide a final official transcript of that coursework.

Verification of Financial Support

International students who meet the university’s admission criteria must provide verification of financial support as well as a deposit of the first term’s tuition, fees, and room and board before the federal I-20 can be issued.

Cost of Attendance

Scholarships and Financial Aid
International students may be eligible for merit-based scholarships. Only United States citizens or permanent residents are eligible for consideration for need-based financial aid.

Year-Round Study
Students who plan to remain in the United States during the summer and attend summer school at Transylvania should budget additional money for expenses.
