MUS 3254 – Conducting

An introduction to the discipline of conducting, applicable to both vocal and instrumental ensembles. Students will learn how to acquire a conception of a musical work through listening, singing and realization at the keyboard; how to clarify that conception through study of the work's cultural, historical and metaphorical context; how to communicate through gesture; how to plan rehearsals; and how to evaluate their own and others' conducting in rehearsal and performance.
