ACADEMICS

Drama

Drama at Transylvania is designed to give you opportunities to understand, appreciate, and do theater. We offer both a major and minor in drama through a variety of courses that develop your knowledge of theater production as well as theater literature, criticism, and theory. As a drama major, you will study character analysis, performance techniques, movement, voice, theater design, stagecraft, lighting, and costuming. You will also have the opportunity for hands-on experience in directing.

Transylvania University Theater, the production arm of the drama program, produces two to three faculty-directed plays each year such as A Midsummer Night's Dream, King Lear, The Miracle Worker, Into the Woods, and Rumors. It also presents student-directed, one-act plays throughout the year. Transy's theater offers an outlet to apply the skills you learn in the classroom, earning academic credit for participating in a theater production.
