Transylvania professors know their students by name and take a keen interest in their academic progress. They’re passionate about their subject matter, and they show it in the classroom, which sparks students’ own excitement for learning.
Our faculty is academically outstanding, with more than 96 percent of tenured and tenure-track professors holding the Ph.D. or highest degree in their field.
Transylvania professors make teaching excellence their first priority. This commitment to quality has been recognized with numerous honors, including Kentucky Professor of the Year awards six times in seven years.
Small classes and personal attention are hallmarks of Transylvania. Our average class size is 13, so students never have to sit in the back of a crowded lecture hall. In fact, nearly 50 percent of classes have 10 or fewer students. No classes have more than 35 students.
“The professors at Transylvania are unlike teachers at any other school, and you can tell the difference the minute you walk into a classroom. It’s the look they get in their eyes when they begin teaching, it's the way they smile when students really get into discussion. They care about what they teach, and they care that we, as students, are learning. And that makes all the difference. At Transy, our professors don’t treat us like numbers; we’re more than just names on a roster. We are learners, and they are here to teach us everything they can, to make sure the passion lives on.”
