It's time for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and special guests to don their dancing shoes! The Crimson Affair, Transylvania's biggest party of the year and its oldest campus-wide tradition, will take place Friday, April 29, from 9 p.m. until midnight, under the name the Inauguration Ball in honor of the inauguration of R. Owen Williams as the university's 25th president. The Crimson Affair, formerly known as the T-Day Ball, includes the 88-year tradition of crowning Miss Transylvania and Mr. Pioneer.
Transylvania established the T-Day Ball in 1923, for the purpose of "the development of a greater college consciousness characterized by united spirit, enthusiasm, and good will," according to the 1924 Crimson yearbook. In that spirit, the Transylvania community will gather at the Hilton in downtown Lexington to celebrate the inauguration of President Williams and dance to The Atlanta Allstars. The 12-piece dance band plays jazz, swing, hip-hop, rock, and Motown classics and recently performed for the Country Music Association Awards' after-party to rave reviews.
