The Arboretum

Home to the State Botanical Garden of Kentucky, the Arboretum boasts 100 acres of gardens, walkways, and jogging paths. Kentucky's seven physiographic regions are represented. Home of the Kentucky Children's Garden.

McConnell Springs

Springs, trails, dense forest, and the remnants of stone fence and foundations. National Registered Historic Site. Frontier explorers settled here in 1775, and named the area Lexington after the first battle of the Revolutionary War.

Lyric Theater & Cultural Arts Center

Historic theater hosting live music and entertainment. Originally a nationally-known venue until its closing in 1963, the Lyric reopened in 2010 following an extensive refurbishment.

Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate

This 18-room mansion was the home of statesman Henry Clay and is open for tours. Clay taught in Transylvania's law department from 1805-1807 and remained a trustee and friend until his death in 1852.

Commonwealth Stadium

Transylvania's football team may be undefeated since 1941 (honestly, that's the last time we had a team), but over 67,000 University of Kentucky football fans pack Commonwealth Stadium to cheer on the Cats several weekends each fall, and tailgaters pack the parking lots and lawns surrounding the stadium.

Blue Grass Airport

The Blue Grass Airport in Lexington offers flights to top destinations including Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, New York LaGuardia, Washington, D.C., and Chicago, and include several non-stop flights. AirTran Airways, Allegiant Air, American Eagle, Continental Express, Delta Air Lines, United Express, and US Airways fly 40 departures from and 40 arrivals to the 15-gate airport daily.

Whitaker Bank Ballpark

Home to Lexington's minor league baseball team, the Legends, the ballpark is a great place to spend an afternoon or evening in spring, summer, or fall. In addition to peanuts and Cracker Jack, special discount pricing on hot dogs happens several times throughout the season and there are other promotions for nearly every game.

Keeneland Race Course

Spring and fall meets at Keeneland have been a Lexington thoroughbred racing tradition since 1936. On afternoons and weekends in April and October, the grandstands are packed with Kentuckians and visitors from around the world, including hundreds of college students—fancy hat optional.

The Red Mile Harness Track

Opened in 1875, the one mile clay track of the Red Mile is the second oldest harness track in the world. In addition to horse racing, the track offers simulcasts every day of the year and hosts numerous events in the clubhouse and the iconic Round Barn, or Floral Hall, built in 1882 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Headley-Whitney Museum

Jeweler George W. Headley III outfitted the likes of Mae West and Joan Crawford before moving back to his family farm, La Belle, in Lexington. In 1960, he married Barbara Whitney Henry Peck, who was related to the Vanderbilt Whitney family. They opened a Jewel Room and Library to the public, later adding the Shell Grotto and the main building. Today the museum hosts permanent and rotating exhibits and offers space for parties and events.

Waveland State Historic Site

Built in 1847 by Joseph Bryan, a grandnephew of Daniel Boone, the beautiful Greek Revival building offers tours focusing on the Bryan family and life on a 19th-century Kentucky plantation. The Bryan family accompanied Daniel Boone on his expedition through the Cumberland Gap and established Bryan's Station, one of Kentucky's first settlements, in 1779.

Joseph-Beth Booksellers

This show-stopper of a bookstore is a Lexington tradition, featuring two levels of books, magazines, music, movies, and gifts that wrap around a central glass atrium. Bronte Bistro is the in-house restaurant and coffee bar.

The Morris Book Shop

You'll see the simple black and white bumper stickers on cars all over town, advertising one of Lexington's newest independent bookshops, which sells 20,000 new books, plus gifts, from their location in the Chevy Chase shopping district.

The Wild Fig Bookstore

Owned by local writer and Affrilachian poet Crystal Wilkinson, the Wild Fig offers quality used books and select new releases. Readings and coffee hours are scheduled as well.

Actors Guild of Lexington

Located in the Downtown Arts Center, AGL offers Lexington patrons several shows each season. Founded in 1984 to offer edgy, contemporary plays, AGL now offers a wide variety of every season.
